Scrappy Gems quilt – a stash friendly Irish chain quilt
Today I’m sharing this scrappy Ruby Star Society Scrappy Gems quilt! I finished this one a while back although it did take some time because I added some hand quilting details.
Scrappy Gems is a stash friendly Irish chain quilt. I sewed up this Ruby Star Society version using assorted fat quarters from my stash.
The Scrappy Gems quilt pattern is available in the Quilty Love pattern shop.
Scrappy Gems quilt pattern
Scrappy Gems is a stash friendly Irish Chain quilt pattern. It’s a fast and fun one that can be sewn together using fat quarters. It uses an assortment of 2.5 inch, 4.5 inch and 6.5 inch strips so you can also cut those from fabrics from your stash.
It’s quick and easy with strip piecing.
Scrappy Gems includes lots of quilt sizes;
- Baby size – 48″ x 48″
- Square throw size – 64″ x 64″ (shown here)
- Large throw size – 64″ x 80″
- Bed size – 80″ x 96″
- Queen bed size – 96″ x 112″
Stash buster quilt pattern
This scrappy Irish Chain quilt pattern is part of the Quilty Love stash buster series. The main idea behind these stash buster quilt patterns is that you can pull some fabrics straight from your stash and start sewing.
The pattern has all of your seams nesting for nice and easy assembly. I love a good nested seam quilt. It really helps everything line up perfectly plus you can usually skip pins when the seams nest.
Hybrid quilting
I did some hybrid quilting on this Ruby Star Scrappy Gems quilt! I had been itching to do this for a while. I had Modern Textiles long arm quilt a large scale baptist fan design. Then I went and filled in an extra arc between each machine quilted arc.
This quilt is a little busy so the hand quilting kind of blends in. I might need to try this hybrid design again on a quilt that will show it off more.
I used my favorite 8 wt thread. You can find all of my hand quilting supplies here.
Watermelon backing
This scrappy Irish chain quilt is backed with a cute watermelon print by Ruby Star Society.
