Hand quilted Fableism Canyon Springs Plus Charmed quilt
Today I’m sharing this hand quilted Canyon Springs Plus Charmed quilt! This quilt has all of my favorite things… Fableism wovens and hand quilting.
I finished this one up recently. You can find the Plus Charmed quilt pattern in the Quilty Love pattern shop.
Plus Charmed Quilt Pattern
Plus Charmed is the most recent Quilty Love quilt pattern. It’s a play on the older Plus Squared quilt pattern. This time I went with larger plus shapes and a more cohesive (less scrappy) design.
The pattern is fairly beginner friendly with larger blocks and some strip piecing shortcuts. It’s also charm friendly, layer cake friendly or fat quarter friendly.
Plus Charmed includes instructions for the following quilt sizes:
- Baby size – 41″ x 41″
- Square throw – 60″ x 60″
- Large throw – 60″ x 80″
- Queen/King bed size – 100″ x 100″
Fableism Canyon Springs fabric
Canyon Springs is a more recent Fableism fabric line and it sure is pretty! I used it on this Happy Scallops quilt also.
The background is Everyday Chambray in Mellow Mauve.
I personally love sewing with Fableism wovens but not all quilters do. They are a looser weave fabric which makes them a little more challenging than a quilting cotton. They tend to shrink more than a regular quilting cotton so I’ve been pre-washing them to pre-shrink them.
I also use a smaller stitch length to ensure they don’t come apart at the seams down the line.
Suzy Quilts Aurifil 8 wt thread set
Aurifil sent me a sample of the new Suzy Quilts 8 wt thread set. I was thrilled to get my hands on this new thicker thread from Aurifil. This set was a beautiful array of colors. I used 8 different threads from the set for this quilt in a repeat design.
Big stitch hand quilting
This Fableism Plus Charmed quilt took me a little longer to quilt up. I worked on it over the entire summer as I had time.
I did my favorite big stitch hand quilting using chunky thread. The lines are 3/4 inch spaced.
I immediately threw this quilt into the wash when I was done. It was a little wonky from the hand quilting so I wanted to see if I could square it up a little. I washed it right away and then pinned it to my design wall to square it up. I can’t remember the name of that process… it’s common for knitted projects.
It did help and it’s much more square now. Plus now it’s nice and crinkly. I was kind of surprised by how much it crinkled up and shrunk since all of the fabrics were pre-washed. It must have been that batting. I think it was an 80/20 cotton/poly batting. It could have been 100 cotton though too since I did go through a roll of that recently.
