Fableism Forest Forage Tiled Stars II quilt by Quilty Love

Today I’m sharing this Fableism Forest Forage Tiled Stars II quilt! This quilt is sewn up using these pretty Fableism wovens and finished off with a soft poofy wool batting.

Tiled Stars II is a block based sawtooth star quilt pattern. You can find it in the Quilty Love pattern shop here.

Tiled Stars II quilt pattern

Tiled Stars II came out in 2023. It’s a fat quarter friendly sawtooth star block based quilt pattern. It’s inspired by the original Tiled Stars quilt found in my book.

Tiled Stars II includes lots of sizes:

  • Baby size quilt – 43″ x 56″
  • Small throw size quilt – 56″ x 69″
  • Square throw size quilt – 69″ square
  • Large throw size quilt – 69″ x 82″ (shown here)
  • Queen size bed quilt – 95″ x 108″

The instructions include a with border option or no border option. I skipped the borders on this Forest Forage version.

Fableism Forest Forage Fabrics

For this Tiled Stars II quilt I used a fat quarter bundle of these beautiful Fableism Forest Forage prints. These are looser weave wovens in really pretty earthy tones.

Working with Fableism Wovens

If you have been following along then you know I’m a huge fan of Fableism wovens. These fabrics are a little lighter weight and looser weave than a regular quilting cotton. Because of this they do tend to shrink and fray a little more.

  • I always prewash Fableism to pre-shrink.
  • I use a smaller stitch length like 1.8 when piecing.
  • I also try to press my seams to the side on wovens for added seam stability.
  • I go for a denser quilting on wovens just to ensure it’s nice and secure.

These looser weave fabrics can be a little more challenging to work with and some quilters just don’t enjoy it. I don’t mind especially after sewing with them quite a bit. I really love the extra drape and texture that these woven quilts can have and find it worth the challenges to get a really beautiful and soft quilt.

Long arm quilting and wool batting

This is the first time I’ve used a wool batting! I’ve been wanting to try wool for a while and thought this wovens one would be a good one to test it out on. So I had Modern Textiles quilt it up using wool.

I’m not going to lie… I was a little underwhelmed…lol. There definitely is a little more poof but I think I was expecting more. I’m realizing now that with both wool and puff batting that the more you quilt it, the more it loses its poofiness. So if you want it to stay nice and puffy then do more minimal quilting.

Fableism Trellis Wovens backing

I finished off this Tiled Stars II quilt with this pretty grid backing. It’s Trellis Wovens by Fableism in the color coast.
