Scrappy Hearts – The scrap stash heart quilt pattern
Today I’m sharing another heart quilt… this time Scrappy Hearts. Scrappy Hearts is one of my favorite of the Quilty Love heart patterns because it’s scrap stash friendly. I try to make them all scrappy friendly but this one really is a good one for sewing through scraps.
You only need 3.5 inch and 4 inch squares to make the entire thing. I really enjoy digging through my scrap bins and making a Scrappy Hearts quilt.
The Scrappy Hearts quilt pattern is available in the Quilty Love pattern shop along with all of the other heart quilt patterns.
Scrappy Hearts Quilt Pattern
Scrappy Hearts was released a few years back as one of the annual Quilty Love Heart Quilts. Each January I like to design a heart quilt that is nice and stash friendly. Scrappy Hearts is nice and scrap stash friendly!
Scrappy Hearts uses smaller sized squares that most of us will find in our scrap stash. And if not, then you can always use fat quarters, fat eighths or cut squares from your fabric stash.
I would call this one a good beginner friendly quilt pattern since the piecing is pretty simple with all squares.
3 quilt sizes
The Scrappy Hearts quilt pattern includes three size options:
- Baby size quilt – 44″ x 44″
- Throw size quilt (shown here) – 60″ x 78″
- Twin size bed quilt – 66″ x 96″
Scrappy background or solid background
I included two background options in the Scrappy Hearts quilt pattern. One option is to use your scrap stash for the background like this version shown here. You can cut your entire background from your low volume scraps. Or you can use yardage and have a solid background. Both cutting options are included.
I kind of love the scrappy background. It’s a great way to use up those low volume scraps. And I seem to always have a ton of them.
I quilted this one up myself on my Janome MC6700p using my favorite wavy stitch. But first I pin basted it on my kitchen island.
Love that texture!
