Heart Gems Quilt using Ruby Star Society Basics
Today I have a Heart Gems quilt to share! I have a handful of heart quilts that I’m hopeful to get up on the blog over the next few weeks since it’s almost Valentine’s Day! Tis the heart season! I sewed up this Heart Gems almost 2 years ago but never got it up on the blog.
Heart Gems is one of the annual Quilty Love heart quilt patterns and like the others is scrappy and stash friendly. This version is sewn up using a variety of Ruby Star Society basics in pinks and reds.
Heart Gems is available in the Quilty Love pattern shop. There is also a step by step class for Heart Gems available here.
Heart Gems quilt pattern
Heart Gems came out a few years ago and has a scrappy heart block. It’s a fun block to sew up making quarter square triangles. You can pull squares from your scrap stash and make it super scrappy like this one or use a fat quarter bundle like I did here.
Heart Gems is block based so those go together easily enough. However, the blocks are set on point so setting triangles are used in the final construction. The pattern has very detailed instructions on assembly. Heart Gems also has a class to walk you through all of the techniques used in this quilt like quarter square triangles and setting triangles.
Heart Gems quilt sizes
There are quite a few sizes included in this scrappy heart quilt. The pattern includes instructions for the following sizes:
- Baby size – 46″ x 54″
- Square throw – 61″ x 61″
- Large throw – 61″ x 76″
- Twin size bed quilt – 66″ x 91″
- Full size bed quilt – 81″ x 91″

This Ruby Star Society Heart Gems was sent off to Modern Textiles for quilting. We chose Katie’s pantograph called Simple Heart Peel.
