Scrappy Star Pop II quilt – the pink one
Today I’m sharing this pink and low volume Scrappy Star Pop II quilt. This scrappy Star Pop II quilt is probably my favorite of the samples I’ve sewn up. I dug through my stash for this one pulling low volume prints for the background and pinky-purple prints for the stars.
Star Pop II is a quick and easy beginner friendly star quilt pattern. It’s a very stash friendly quilt pattern since you can use a variety of fabric cuts to make one. The instructions include several sizes from baby all the way up to king size.

Scrappy Star Pop II quilt
I’ve really been into low volume and scrappy quilts lately so I was excited to sew up this scrappy version. I really love a good stash quilt so anytime I can sew one up it makes me happy. For this scrappy star quilt, I pulled a handful of low volume fabrics from my stash along with a handful of pinky-purple fat quarters for the stars.
I kept each quadrant of the star the same print but you could also make your stars full on scrappy not keeping each quadrant the same. I made the blues version that way.
Low volume backgrounds create so much movement in a quilt. I like mixing different tones together like in this scrappy Star Pop II quilt or even using all one tone as the background like in this Glowing quilt.
Star Pop II quilt pattern
The Star Pop II quilt pattern is a fast and fun sawtooth star quilt pattern. It is precut friendly and includes lots of quilt sizes. Use fat quarters, fat eighths, quarter yards, layer cake squares or your scrap stash for this modern star quilt.
Star Pop II includes instructions for a baby size quilt, square throw size quilt, large throw size quilt, twin bed size quilt, queen bed size quilt and a king bed size quilt.
Juki vs Janome
This is one of the first quilts I pieced on my new Juki 2010q! If you have been following along on Instagram then you know I tried a Juki 2000 a while back. It didn’t work out as it kept snapping my thread so I sent it back. I’ve been anxious to try another one and finally bought one again! This time I upgraded the model to the 2010q.
It is a really fun machine to piece on! It’s fast, it’s responsive and it feels very mechanical. The Juki 2010q only does a straight stitch. The needle doesn’t move and there are no fancy stitches. I bought this machine as a back up to my beloved Janome. My Janome desperately needs some service since it’s never had a check up in the 3 years I’ve owned it. And since I use my machine so often I’ve really wanted a solid back up machine.
So this scrappy Star Pop II was pieced on the Juki but quilted on the Janome 🙂 You cannot beat the wavy stitch on the Janome. I haven’t tried quilting on the Juki yet but it will only quilt straight lines.
I’m happy to say this Juki is working out so far. I was having a few issues with snapping thread here and there but nothing like the first one I tried. One of these days I’ll have to do a full review of the Juki… and maybe even the Janome for that matter.
Wavy Stitch quilting on a regular sewing machine
I decided to quilt this scrappy Star Pop II quilt myself due to time constraints and because I still enjoy quilting every once in a while. I pretty much quilt everything in the wavy stitch because I love the look.
I have a full Wavy Stitch Quilting YouTube tutorial here. I like to space my lines 3/4 inch apart when using this stitch. The end result is so much beautiful texture.
Backing and binding
Star Pop II is finished off with a teal binding and a nice and neutral quilt backing. The binding is Speckled in teal and the backing is a Speckled White Gold wide back. Both are by Ruby Star Society.
