2 Scrappy Trip Around the World quilts
Today I’m sharing not one, but two Scrappy Trip around the World quilts! I think this makes four Scrappy Trip quilts total. And I’m sure they will not be the last. These quilts are so fun to make and a really great stash buster. I followed this tutorial by Quiltville.
The Pink and Peach Scrappy Trip
I’ll start with the most recent one I made and that’s this pink and peach Scrappy Trip quilt. So far all of my Scrappy Trip quilts have been in the blue and green color family. I finally branched out on this one and went with a new color scheme.
I started pulling this bundle from my fabric stash. When I make a Scrappy Trip Around the World quilt I like to keep the center diagonal strip cohesive by using the same color. For this pink and peach version I used the darker purply pinks for that strip. It’s fairly easy to do by just lining up the unpicked tubes with that color always starting first.
Scrappy Trips around the World are really great stash busters since they are made using 2.5″ x 18″ strips.
Wavy Stitch Quilting
I quilted this pink and peach Scrappy Trip around the world quilt myself using my favorite wavy stitch. I changed it up a little for this one and stretched the wave out a little more than I normally do. I’m guessing my settings were something like 3.5 stitch length and a width of about 5 or 6. My normal is 3.0 and a width of 7.
The lines are 3/4 in spaced. You can check out my full wavy stitch tutorial here.
The blue and green Scrappy Trip Around the World quilt
Next up is this blue and green Scrappy Trip quilt. I made this one about a year ago and it’s been sitting in my to-blog pile ever since.
I have a stack of quilts to blog and every day I take them out of my sewing room during the work day and put them back in at the end of the work day. Well, this pile is getting really heavy to move so I’m doubling up on this Scrappy Trip blog post so I can put away two quilts in the pile…lol.
If you look back at the other Scrappy Trip quilts Iv’e made then you might see a recurring theme. And it’s this color scheme. I don’t know why I keep making the same quilt over and over…lol. These colors make me really happy and I really love them in this quilt.
The blues are the center diagonal strip in this version. I pulled this fat quarter stack from my stash. This one is pretty heavy on the low volume prints. I like how it really lightens up this quilt.
Pressing the seams
I don’t usually press any of my blocks until it’s a quilt top. And then I kind of end up smashing the seams down. Well, I finally learned about twisted seams! You can see it in the pink and peach version. It’s really slick because every block nests.
Check out this tutorial by MaTante Quilting here.
Those aren’t nicely nested seams above. Those are smooshed seams…lol. I didn’t know about the twisted seams yet for this one.
Long arm quilting
I sent this blue and green Scrappy Trip Around the World off to Modern Textiles for quilting. We chose this Abacus pantograph. It’s one of my favorites.
Flannel backing
This blue green Scrappy Trip is backed with a cozy flannel! This is the grid work flannel by Robert Kaufman.
